Well folks, they’re here. Well for most fantasy leagues at least. Nonetheless, the playoffs are upon many fantasy football leagues. I hope that the advice and reviews from Nate and I have helped at least somewhat. Currently, I am in three fantasy leagues and made the playoffs in all three. Whether I do well in the playoffs is a completely different story but I guess we shall see.
So you’re probably here to gather some takeaways to finish the season strong and take home the trophy. I do have some words of advice for you as you prepare for the first rounds of the playoffs. And don’t worry, I will be back posting before Sunday about who should have a good week and propel you into the next round. So here it is.
Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, and Drew Brees Owners: DO NOT PANIC
Yes. The Saints frankly got beat down by the Cowboys elite defense. However, people need to realize, it is football after all. It is nearly impossible to dominate every single game, regardless of how hot the team is. Drew Brees had a bad week posting just over 7 points. Alvin Kamara has been back under 20 points for two straight weeks. Michael Thomas has not been himself posting two straight weeks of under 10 points.
But I am going to repeat myself here, do not panic. They will bounce back. If you honestly think that they aren’t working right now to bounce back to their dominate form then you are mistaken.
Tyreek Hill’s value is going to decrease. But just a tad.
By now, I’m sure many, if not, all of you have heard about the Kareem Hunt situation. He’s gone and will not be back in Kansas City or possibly in the league in general. So how does that effect everybody else on the Chiefs?
For Patrick Mahomes, it does not have as much of an effect as you would think. In fact, it could benefit him. The Chiefs may be more bound to throw the ball in the red zone now instead of running it. Mahomes still has a rocket arm. Travis Kelce will see more targets and be more involved in the offense. But what about Tyreek Hill?
The fastest man in the league cannot be shut down every game. However, with one of Kansas City’s key weapons gone, it will be easier for defenses to focus on the most dynamic and explosive player in the NFL. I would not expect another 40 point game this season but he very easily could still secure 20 points for fantasy owners.
Ezekiel Elliott is slowly taking over the number one fantasy running back spot.
Now this is debatable, I know. With guys like Todd Gurley, Saquon Barkley, and Melvin Gordon in this category, it really is hard to say who is the best fantasy running back. But Ezekiel Elliott is making a case.
The consistency of Elliott is hard to deny. He’s been over at least 25 points the last 4 weeks. He’s doing something many thought he could not do and that’s be a receiver. The knock against Elliott was that he was just a downhill running back and did not offer much value in the passing game. Well he is proving those people wrong.
I think we’re seeing something from Ezekiel Elliott that we last saw during Ohio State’s 2014 National Championship run. And that something is the fact that the man is HUNGRY. He wants to lead the league in rushing. He wants to get to the end zone whenever he can. And I think with a better coach, his numbers could be even better, which is scary to think about. But keep an eye on Zeke. Maybe he’ll struggle against the Eagles this week or maybe he’ll continue doing what he has the whole season and that’s be an absolute beast.
